Inspiration

Here at Butterfly Lane we like to gather inspiration for every room in your home, from a sumptuous sitting room, elegant entrance hall to a beautiful nursery.  Here are our inspirations, ideas and design tips for every room in your home...even your garden!

Dining Room

The dining room is a room that, lets face it, is used pretty infrequently if you have a kitchen/diner.  However, it always adds a sense of occasion when you use this room, as it is earmarked for special occasions - Christmas, dinner parties, birthday's.  I always remember my mothers dining room, shut off from everyday use, with cabinets full of her best china and crystal, with the walnut table glossed to an inch of its life, the smell of polish overwhelming!  However, I think dining rooms should be embraced as an everyday room and I have been inspired by some absolutely gorgeous images...read more

Bedroom

Your bedroom is definitely the most personal of rooms in a house, and a room that is often not seen by your guests, apart from your guest bedrooms of course!  In true Butterfly Lane style I think a muted colour palette works so well in a bedroom...read more

Bathroom

The bathroom might well be the most over looked room in your home, a place full of children's bath time toys, cleaning products and laundry baskets.  Sound familiar?  Well, here at Butterfly Lane we want to make a change and turn this room in to a relaxing hub, a spa sanctuary and chic, oh so chic!  Read more

Study

A study is a very personal space, a place for concentration and hard work, or maybe just a place for you to carry out your internet shopping!  In any case a study needs to have an air of calm and retreat, and this is different for different people.  I worked for the designer Sir Paul Smith for many years and his offices were an amalgamation of clutter and intrigue, he is a hoarder to say the least.  Books, old bikes, toys...you name it, he has it in his office.  However, this is how he works best, surrounding himself with inspiration and creativity.  I am certainly at the other end of the spectrum!  I like a clean, tidy and above all, organised office...read more

Kitchen

I admit it; I'm a 'wannabe' domestic goddess!  I love nothing more than hosting guests in my home, pouring drinks, laying out nibbles and making everywhere look pretty.  This is why the kitchen is such an important room in my home, like it is for many other like-minded, homely folk.

The kitchen is definitely the hub of our home, the domestic centre, the place where we entertain guests, socialise...read more

The Entrance Hall

Entrance hall, hallway, foyer, call it what you will, this is the first impression of your home, therefore it needs to symbolise your style immediately.  Whether it is English country living you are channeling with a welly rack at the front door, or Georgian splendor with an elegant coat stand, it's all in the detail.  Whatever the size, this room shouldn't be overlooked as it's the ideal place to showcase your homes style.  Here at Butterfly Lane we love a grand entrance so here are some inspirational images to help you with your design journey...read more

Nursery

A nursery is such a special and exciting room to design, but can often pose a design challenge for families as it is a step away from the norm as they are designing for a baby and not themselves.  While indeed this space is a child's bedroom, it is important to remember that a nursery is a place where new mummy's and daddy's look after their new arrival...read more

The Garden

The sun is shining and the birds are singing and rather uncharacteristically I'm thinking about...gardening!  Albeit my house still needs a lot of work on the inside, but equally it needs transforming on the outside too and as the weather turns in to hazy sunny days it makes me want to create a charming, relaxing space to kick back with a magazine or two, along with a chilled glass of Pinot, whilst listening to the birds chirp away.  Obviously, if the boyfriend is reading this, only after spending a full day painting, sanding and demolishing of course.  A girl needs a sanctuary of calm away from the noise of drills and hammers!  So my new project...read more
